Today, Marseille-Provence hosts many internationally-renowned artistic and cultural events, including Aix-en-Provence’s Festival d’Art Lyrique, Arles’ Rencontres de la Photographie, the Roque d’Anthéron’s Festival de Piano and more.

In addition to these cultural high points, a profusion of smaller events also take place in the region. Building on a tradition of artistic creation and quality programming, they are organised by associations and other cultural organisations. Their aim: to make all forms of cultural and artistic expression accessible to the widest possible audience.

One of Marseille-Provence 2013′s main goals is to support, encourage and increase the visibility of these local initiatives.

A regional Capital of Culture
Marseille-Provence 2013 is a regional project. This means bringing together as many local communities as possible.

This regional dimension is key to the cultural project and programming. Planned events include themed installations, itinerant projects, simultaneous events in multiple locations and art in the public arena. For Marseille-Provence 2013, it’s about inventing new ways of showcasing the region by working closely with local populations.

In 2013, visitors will discover a whole area. From nature parks to urban zones, Marseille-Provence 2013 will present different groups, traditions and lifestyles through contemporary forms of artistic creation.
