Changing cities – MP2013 venues

More than just an exceptional programme of artistic and cultural events, 2013 is also a year of regional transformation for Marseille-Provence with the development of new cultural venues and urban landscapes.

Contemporary architects, from Provence and beyond, have designed new venues for artistic creation and cultural exchanges in Marseille, Arles, Aix-en-Provence and Aubagne. Rudy Ricciotti, Zaha Hadid, Norman Foster, Stefano Boeri, Kengo Kuma and Patrick Bouchain have all contributed their expertise to designing new museums, concert halls, galleries, and artist studios that will make a lasting architectural contribution to the region.

In Marseille, the waterfront is now home to a series of iconic sites associated with Marseille-Provence 2013: the MuCEM (Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilisations), the Villa Méditerranée, the the Fonds Régional d’Art Contemporain (Regional Contemporary Art Fund), the Musée Regards de Provence, the J1 hangar, and the Silo are some of the cultural symbols of the new union between the port, its economic activities and its residents.
