OTTO-Prod and Marseille-Provence 2013 cordially invite you to the opening of the Panorama #1 exhibition, by French artist Fouad Bouchoucha. It will take place on Saturday 19 May at 7pm, at the Vetrinjski Dvor Mansion in Maribor, Slovenia.

Marseille-based artist Fouad Bouchoucha was invited by the Ljubljana Institut Français to take part in a one-month residency, Topographical Landscapes / Sound Zero Attempt, in May 2012. This project, which is part of OTTO-Prod’s Working Holidays programme in Slovenia and Maribor 2012′s Cultural Ambassies programme, resulted in the original artistic creation Panorama #1.

Bouchoucha’s new artistic creation is based on audio recordings of explosions, set off to reveal the spatial imprints of Slovenia’s different topographies and landscapes. As sounds reflect and reverberate differently in different places, the artist will observe each landscape’s potential for resonance, depending on how entrenched or wide it is. These observations will be used to create sound boxes.

An immersive environment, created at the Vetrinjski Dvor mansion, will be designed so recordings of these spatial echoes and reverberations can be played back, thus engaging our auditory reflexes. Using architecture and psycho-acoustic phenomena, the artist encourages us to assess landscapes through sound, observing the power of spatial suggestion. The installation engages memory-related deductive processes and reflexes reconstructing these imaginary panoramas.
